This month, our honorees stand out for their influence in Canada and around the world. Without further ado, here are Kamille Larocque and Emy Legault.
Kamille had a superb season. She was Canadian U23 champion and Elite vice-champion. At the FISU World University Championships in Maceio, Brazil, she finished 4th. To round off the season, at the U23 World Championships in Abu Dhabi, Kamille placed in the world’s top 20.
Like her compatriot, Emy has had quite a year! This season, she collected silver at the Huatulco World Cup and four other medals in continental races. At the World Series in Montreal and Hamburg, she finished 12th and 10th respectively. To end the year on a high note, she entered the world top 10 at the Commonwealth Games – an incredible ranking for Quebec athletes!

I’m really proud to have had a season where my performances were very consistent. I’m also very proud to have participated in the U23 World Championships, where I completed my second Olympic-distance triathlon. I’m also proud to have been able to compete at this level while doing my bachelor’s degree full-time and having a part-time job.

It’s been an emotional year. In 2022, I achieved performances that I wasn’t sure I would ever achieve in my career. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made, but above all of the learning that these top-level performances have brought me this season. A year in which I learned to perform alongside the best women in the world.

My coach Caroline is the person who has helped me most so far in my athletic career. She has a very human vision and approach to training. Even though she’s not in the same town as me, I feel she’s always available and attentive to my needs. I appreciate the fact that she encourages me both in my sport and in my life as a student. She knows how to bring out the best in everyone, and that makes a huge difference in my life.
R2 – Emy
I couldn’t name just one person. To perform at the highest level, a triathlete needs a complete team behind her. For my part, I’m talking about my parents and my sister, who have always supported me and guided me through the toughest choices and moments of my career. Kyla, my coach, is one of the people who has truly believed in my abilities from the start and who has always been honest with me. This honesty has enabled me to make great strides! Javier has always been there for me and passed on a lot of his knowledge of the sport. My friends support me, but also help me to “unplug” from this high-performance world!

Running, swimming and cycling! This is a very difficult question, as I really love all three sports. However, if I had to choose, I’d say running, as it’s always been my favourite of the three since I was very young. Then open water swimming. A few years ago, I wouldn’t have said that because I was afraid of sea animals, but now I’ve got that sorted out, and I prefer open-water swimming. Finally, cycling, as this discipline has always been less natural to me, but now I’m happy to say that even if it’s third on my list, all the disciplines are on the same level in my heart.
R3 – Emy
Running definitely comes first. This discipline brings me great happiness. In second place, I’d say cycling, as it allows me to see so many beautiful landscapes! Finally, swimming comes third. I love swimming after all!
R4 -Family
I love traveling to discover different cultures, people, landscapes and architecture. I’m really lucky in that my sport takes me to some extraordinary places. Every time I go on a trip, I try to find the most beautiful places to train, taste the local food, do activities and discover as much of the destination as possible. Whether it’s visiting a new country or a new corner of Quebec, I love adventure!
R4 -Emy
I love to cook! I love trying out new recipes and sharing my creations with friends and family!
R5 – Kamille
My ultimate goal in triathlon would be to one day compete in the Olympic Games.
R5 – Emy
Right now, my biggest goal is the Paris Olympics. Of course, I’d like to be competitive there, not just take part, but that more precise objective will be determined when the time comes! After all, you have to qualify first!
