Pleased with the creation of our ÉcoTQ certification, developed in partnership with the Conseil québécois des événements écoresponsablesTriathlon Québec is proud to announce that 29 events have signed up for the 2022 season.
Triathlon Québec wishes to be a driving force in the Quebec sporting world towards responsible practice. Through various internal and external initiatives, the Federation seeks to minimize its own ecological footprint. We know that sustainable development is a concern and a desire of our participants. For several years now, our partner events have been able to commit to delivering eco-responsible races. Thanks to the ÉcoTQ program, partner events are implementing five major pillars with the common goal of reducing the environmental impact of the various stages in the organization of the event. The five main pillars are :
- Human resources and land management: implementing a sustainable development policy means setting up actions to reduce the event’s ecological footprint.
- Food: the introduction of food stewardship, including reducing the use of single-use products, vegetarian options on the menu, and the removal of plastic water bottles.
- Management of residual materials and energy sources: introduction of a green brigade and better management of compost, recycling and waste garbage cans.
- Environmental awareness and education; sharing sustainable development values throughout the event with participants, spectators, volunteers and employees.
- Transport, travel and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: minimize GHG production through a range of proposed actions.
You can now follow your environmental values when selecting your events for the season, and commit to sustainable development yourself.
Events that implement Triathlon Québec’s ÉcoTQ eco-responsible measures will receive GOLD, SILVER or BRONZE certification, based on the fifty certification evaluation criteria. Thank you to the organizing committees who will devote time and energy to implementing new habits in an environmentally-friendly approach.
