The 2021 triathlon season officially kicked off yesterday in Laval-sur-le-Lac with the Triathlon Laval Mouvement Physio. For its third edition, this triathlon, masterfully organized by the Laval club, welcomed 250 athletes on a high-quality course.
The day began at 8:00 am on the banks of the Milles-Iles river, with a sprint triathlon, an initiation triathlon, U15 and U13 races and, of course, the youth distances to round off the day. For this 3rd edition, the event was sold out, as the limit had been set at 250 participants due to the pandemic. Race director Dominique Clément confided that “organizing the 3rd edition of the Laval Triathlon was quite an adventure. The uncertainty associated with the pandemic and the health standards imposed by the various public health agencies brought a lot of extra work and considerations. Creativity and adaptability have been the watchwords over the last few months. I’m extremely proud of the work accomplished by the organizing committee and grateful for the support provided by Triathlon Québec and Ville de Laval”. The event was a great success, as the smiles on the faces of the participants testify.
On the sporting front, local runner Alexandre Leblanc won the race with a time of 1h01’31”, ahead of fellow Team Québec member Olivier Desjardins (1h04’11”) from Club Hippocampe. The podium was completed by Charles-Antoine Legrand (1h06’31”). In the women’s category, victory went to young Léa Pelletier (1h12’314”) of Jet triathlon. She was joined on the podium by the organizing club’s Émy Sarrazin (1h13’41”) and Arianne Bijould (1h13’41”), the photo finish having been necessary to separate the two athletes.
In the U15 category, victory went to Éli Majeau (34’38”) ahead of Léo Savoie (35’48”) and Philippe Tarini (38’00). In the girls’ category, Charlotte Fournier (38’43”) won ahead of Mila-Rose Toussignant (41’51”) and Victoria Remillard (42’56”).
Finally, in the U13 boys “category, Tyler St-Marie (40’06”“) finished ahead of Samuel Forget (41’28”“) and Mikaël Roy (41’44”“). In the girls” category, Catherine Longpré (43’09 “”), Alisson Lavallée (45’09 “”) and Angélin Duran (48’34 “”) took the top three places.
There was also a very strong turnout in the youth categories, as well as remarkable support from the youngsters of the Laval triathlon club, who swapped their trisuits for volunteer shirts to come and help the little ones. These moments of sharing and joy are the beauty of our partner events!
